This is not just your problem, but I have the EXACT same error messages, on my XP Pro SP3 from, missing registry key, to fatal error, to the spinning circle that says Java is not installed on this system, also I can not remove it via Add/Remove.
I have attempted to install over the old (not working) version, but the errors still appear. My only change is in cleaning I also got =>
Found and removed: JavaScript
Found and removed: JavaScript Author
Found and removed: JavaScript1.2 Author
NOTE: This is the English version and I use I.E. as browser
